Emirati Recital Series

Overview

A showcase of Emirati musical talent, this recital series presents a variety of programmes spanning classical and traditional Arabic repertoire, intricate compositions and contemporary works. Mezzo-soprano Fatima Al Hashimi, accompanied by pianist Ina Charelli, brings warmth and lyricism to a programme that highlights both her expressive voice and the piano’s sensitive accompaniment. Oud virtuosos Saif Al Naqbi and Mubarak Al Dhaheri, joined by qanun player Noura Al Marzouqi, perform in a programme presented in collaboration with Beit Al Oud, celebrating the richness and heritage of Arabic music. Cellist Elham Al Marzouqi, the UAE’s first professional female Emirati cellist, performs works ranging from classical masterpieces to contemporary compositions, showcasing the cello’s expressive depth and resonant tone.

Each recital offers an intimate and engaging experience, highlighting the technical mastery, musical sensitivity and expressive richness of Emirati artistry.

12 May: Fatima Al Hashimi (mezzo-soprano) and Ina Charelli (piano)

Emirati mezzo-soprano Fatima Al Hashimi brings a voice of warmth, accompanied by pianist Ina Chareli. Together, they present a programme blending classical and traditional Arabic repertoire, highlighting both the lyrical qualities of the voice and the nuanced support of the piano. Showcasing their musical sensitivity and interpretive skill, the pieces alternate between tender, reflective songs and more vibrant, expressive moments, creating a performance that is both engaging and emotionally resonant.

15 May: Saif Al Naqbi (oud), Noura Al Mazrouei (qanun) and Mubarak Al Dhaheri (oud)

Oud virtuosos Saif Al Naqbi and Mubarak Al Dhaheri are joined by qanun player Noura Al Mazrouei, all drawing on their training and experience at Beit Al Oud, Abu Dhabi. In this programme, they present a selection of works weaving together classical and traditional Arabic repertoire, highlighting the intricate textures and expressive qualities of the oud and qanun. Alternating between virtuosic passages and lyrical melodies, the musicians demonstrate their technical mastery and deep understanding of the region’s musical heritage, creating a performance that is both nuanced and captivating. Through each piece, they convey the richness, emotion and storytelling inherent in Arabic music, offering audiences an immersive and memorable musical experience.

16 May: Elham Al Marzouqi (cello)

Cellist Elham Al Marzouqi possesses a warm, rich tone and expressive depth. In this programme, she presents a selection of works ranging from classical masterpieces to contemporary compositions, highlighting the cello’s lyrical and dramatic qualities. Demonstrating her versatility and nuanced musicality, the pieces are interwoven with traditional and regional repertoire, reflecting both her technical mastery and her deep connection to the Arab musical heritage. Through each movement, Al Marzouqi conveys emotion, storytelling and elegance, creating an engaging and memorable experience for audiences.

Fatima Al Hashimi

Fatima Al Hashmi is a distinguished Emirati opera singer, recognised for her contributions to the UAE’s cultural landscape. She has performed internationally at prestigious venues such as the Bolshoi Theatre and Enescu Hall, collaborating with renowned orchestras representing the UAE in diplomatic and cultural events. With a background in performing arts management, she is committed to bridging performance, education and research.  

Al Hashimi is a leading figure in the UAE’s music scene, inspiring the next generation by demonstrating that a career in music is both viable and impactful. Her work promotes artistic excellence while fostering cultural appreciation and education. Passionate about advancing the arts, she continuously seeks opportunities to elevate Emirati talent on the global stage. She has performed in 20 different languages across Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada, Mexico and Brazil.  

As a cultural ambassador and role model, she is dedicated to shaping the future of music in the UAE through performance, mentorship and academic research. She is an artist-in-residence at the American University of Sharjah and a founding member of Emirati Musicians Association.

Elham Al Marzouqi

Elham Al Marzouqi is the UAE’s first professional female Emirati cellist. She began her musical journey at a young age, first studying piano before discovering her passion for the cello. Over the years, she has performed with major orchestras, including the Dubai Chamber Orchestra, Emirates Community Symphonic Orchestra and the Firdaus Orchestra, an all-female Arab ensemble. Al Marzouqi has also appeared on international stages such as Carnegie Hall and has participated in cross-cultural projects, including the Symphony of Three in Poland. Alongside her musical career, she continues to contribute to the UAE’s arts community, supporting emerging talent and inspiring the next generation of musicians.

Beit Al Oud

Established in 2008, Beit Al Oud in Abu Dhabi is a premier institute dedicated to preserving, teaching and celebrating the rich heritage of Arabic music. Founded under the guidance of oud master Naseer Shamma, the centre offers comprehensive programmes in oud, qanun, voice and other traditional instruments, combining practical training with music theory and performance.

Beit Al Oud also trains artisans in oud craftsmanship, ensuring the continuation of this revered instrument-making tradition. Its Arabic choir programme nurtures vocal ensembles in classical and contemporary Arab repertoire, while diploma courses provide rigorous, performance-focused study for aspiring professional musicians.

As both an educational hub and a cultural centre, Beit Al Oud plays a vital role in sustaining the region’s musical traditions, fostering new talent and promoting Arabic music locally and internationally. Its students and alumni have gone on to perform on major stages, helping to share the beauty and depth of Arabic music with audiences around the world.
