The Art of Sir Bryn Terfel with Sinfonia Cymru
Arab World Debut
Tosca is a fully directed, semi-staged performance with a full cast of vocal soloists, orchestra and choir designed for a concert hall. This carefully crafted concert production thrillingly recreates the passion and drama within Puccini’s iconic opera. With the combined force of orchestra and chorus visible on stage, the production fully showcases Puccini’s powerful score and Terfel’s incredible, unique bass-barritone in the role of Scarpia. On the stage, Terfel will be joined by Kristine Opolais singing Tosca, and Vittorio Grigolo singing Cavaradossi in what promises to be a full operatic experience full of love, corruption, intrigue and murder. The orchestra will be Sinfonia Cymru, joined by Côr choir.
Fully dramatised, each act is staged with precision, the action presented neatly and ingeniously on the concert platform. Amy Lane’s production is designed to be performed within the parameters of a concert hall to a clearly defined, compact schedule. It will be a welcome return to Abu Dhabi Festival for Terfel, who previously performed here in 2013.
