One of the most influential museum directors of our time, Dr. Manuel Borja-Villel held the role of Director at the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) for two decades before taking the helm at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS). With a PhD from the Department of Art History from the Graduate School at the City University of New York in addition to accolades Yale University, Dr Borja-Villel is a respected authority on modern and contemporary art. As part of the Abu Dhabi Festival annual series talks, Riwaq Al Fikr celebrates insightful dialogue among thinkers, diplomats, cultural leaders and the general public, creating a platform for compelling discourse. Dr. Borja-Villel will lead a talk in Manarat Al Saadiyat that is open to the public and free to attend.
The annual discussion series offers insightful dialogue between thought leaders, diplomats, cultural leaders and the general public. Since 2010, the Abu Dhabi Festival’s Riwaq Al Fikr has held 26 sessions, hosted 109 panelists, welcomed over 2,850 audience members and has provided more than 44 hours of discourse. The 2019 series expand to include a collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Health Authority hosting a talk about the promotion of health and well-being through arts and culture.
